Maulbronn Monastery

(Cistercian monastery from 1147-1537)

Maulbronn monastery is one of the best preserved medieval monastery monuments north of the Alps. All schools of architecture and periods of development, from the Romanesque to Late Gothic periods, are found under one roof. Maulbronn monastery has been registered as one of UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage sites since December 1993.

The Monastery Museum

In the historic buildings of the former cooper and the Chimney house, a wealth of information is available to visitors about the history of the monastery before and after the Reformation, the life of the Cistercians and the cultural landscape developed by the monks. The Early Gothic Provisions cellar in the western tract of the monastery houses a lapidarium, a collection of carved stones from the monastery's original stonemasonry. The exhibition also includes explanations (in German) of building and construction in the middle ages.
